CLEVELAND -- Current Cleveland Browns star and former Kent State standout Josh Cribbs was named the Professional Athlete of the Year at the 2010 Cleveland Sports Awards held Thursday night (Feb. 10) at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel.
A member of the NFL's All-Decade Team, a two-time Pro Bowl starter and a first team Associated Press All-Pro in 2009, Cribbs had a solid 2010 campaign despite battling injuries all season long. One of the most dangerous returners in the history of the game, he averaged 20.4 yards on kick returns and 8.4 yards on punt returns last year while adding a career-high 292 yards receiving and a touchdown reception.
The last 10 months have been exceptional for Cribbs at Kent State as well. In May of 2010, he earned his degree in communications studies and then had his jersey retired in October. Just last Saturday, he was inducted into the Varsity "K" Hall of Fame.
Greater Cleveland Sports Awards were created in 2000 by the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission as its annual fundraising event. Over the past 11 years, the Sports Commission has been directly responsible for attracting over 100 sporting events and activities to the Greater Cleveland area, generating more than $300 million in economic impact.
