NEW ORLEANS -- For a second straight year, Kent State junior track & field student-athlete Diana Dumitrescu (Campulung Arges, Romania) can call herself an All-America award winner.
Dumitrescu earned United State Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Second Team Indoor All-America honors after placing 10th in the pentathlon at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, the organization announced today (March 14). She is the first Kent State women's track & field student-athlete to garner back-to-back All-America honors since Jennifer Buckley did it with her performance in the 800-meter run in 1994 and '95. Dumitrescu's back-to-back All-America selections run Kent State's streak of women's All-America selections to three straight years, as LeVania Henderson earned All-America honors in the weight throw in 2009.
Dumitrescu totaled 4,006 points at the national championship meet last Friday (March 11) at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station, Texas. She took second in the shot put portion with a toss of 43'-00.25" (13.11m), tied for eighth in the high jump portion with a leap of 5'-06.50", finished 10th in the long jump portion with a leap of 18'-09.25" (5.71m), placed 15th in the 800-meter run portion by clocking a 2:25.16 and finished 16th in the 60-meter hurdles portion with a time of 8.99.
The Golden Flashes open the 2011 outdoor season March 25 at the Raleigh Relays.
