Kilgore Named MAC Wrestler of the Year

CLEVELAND - Kent State junior Dustin Kilgore (Berea, Ohio/Berea) was named Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Year Tuesday by the league's head coaches. On March 19, Kilgore became the first MAC wrestler since 1999 to win an NCAA title.
The 197-pounder also won his third consecutive MAC title in convincing fashion and went 5-0 in conference duals. Posting a record of 38-2 during the 2010-11 season, Kilgore broke Kent State's record for wins in a single season and became the Golden Flashes' all-time win leader (135). Twenty-seven of Kilgore's 38 wins came via fall (10), technical fall (4) or major decision (13).
The MAC Wrestler of the Year honor has now gone to a Kent State wrestler in three straight seasons. Jermail Porter claimed the honor in 2009 and Danny Mitcheff was given the MAC's top honor last season.
Ohio's Jeremy Johnson was named Freshman of the Year and Buffalo's Jim Beichner was named Coach of the Year.
The Golden Flashes (14-6, 4-1 MAC) finished 17th at the NCAA Championships and earned a share of the MAC regular season title.
