Several Kent State Track & Field Student-Athletes Finish Indoor Season On High Notes

Although the Kent State track & field program received no national championship meet qualifiers out of the Alex Wilson Invitational and Virginia Tech Final Qualifier Saturday (March 5), all six student-athletes who participated finished their indoor seasons on high notes.
"We competed well and had strong performances," said Kent State director of track & field Bill Lawson. "It was a positive end to the season and we feel good about the opportunity we had to get better this weekend."
Senior Destin Heasley (Massillon, Ohio), junior Dean Wood (North Richmond, Australia), sophomore Kenneth Agee (Shaker Heights, Ohio) and Josh Schmidt competed at the Alex Wilson Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind. Heasley took eighth in the men's 800-meter run by clocking a 1:49.76 while Schmidt timed in at 1:50.83. Wood recorded a leap of 2.10m to finish third in the high jump while Agee placed fourth with a jump of 2.10m.Â
Junior Rob Falchi (Winmalee, Australia) and redshirt junior Kim Preston (Greenville, Pa.) took part in the Virginia Tech Final Qualifier in Blacksburg, Va. Preston placed eighth in the women's pole vault, elevating herself 3.90m. Falchi tied for 10th in the triple jump with a leap of 15.00m.
Kent State junior Diana Dumitrescu (Campulung Arges, Romania ) has already punched her ticket to the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships in the women's pentathlon. Her point total of 4,009 clinched her third straight Mid-American Conference pentathlon title and MAC Women's Most Valuable Performer award last Saturday (Feb. 26) at the conference championship meet. The mark currently ranks 10th in the nation.
The 2011 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held next weekend (March 11-12) at Texas A&M's Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station, Texas.
