Oklahoma City - One day after Dustin Kilgore earned a spot on the United States National Team, former Kent State standout Danny Mitcheff earned a spot as an alternate on Saturday with a fourth place finish during the World Team Trials at the Cox Convention Center.
Competing at 55KG (121 lbs), Mitcheff's third place finish at the U.S. Open in April earned him a first round bye in the challenge tournament Saturday. He then defeated former NCAA runner-up Dan Dennis 1-0, 4-0.
Mitcheff's first loss of the day came to Nick Simmons who went on to win the challenge tournament and defeated Sam Hazewinkel in a best-of-three championship.

In the consolation bracket, Mitcheff topped three-time All-American Brandon Precin 2-0, 1-3, 4-2 and knocked off Dennis again 0-3, 4-0, 3-0 in the consolation finals. Battling for a true third place, Mitcheff fell to Obe Blanc in three periods 1-0, 0-1, 1-1 (Video). Blanc scored the final takedown of the third period, which served as the tiebreaker.
