Kent State's Jacquise Terry (Phenix City, Ala.) recently signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Lions, becoming the fourth senior from the Golden Flashes' 2011 football squad to join an NFL team.Â
The only two-time Academic All-American in program history, Terry rushed for 1,721 yards and 14 touchdowns from 2008-2011. A dual offensive threat, he also caught 57 passes for 612 yards and four touchdowns.
This past season, Terry was selected as a team captain, earned Academic All-MAC honors for the third straight year and played in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl.
Terry joins center Chris Anzevino (Warren, Ohio) and nose tackle Ish Kitchen (Youngstown, Ohio) of the Baltimore Ravens and wide receiver Sam Kirkland (Chesapeake, Va.) of the Washington Redskins, as one of four Flashes to sign free agent contracts just days after NFL draft.
Last summer, Kent State also had a quartet of former seniors sign NFL contracts: Monte Simmons, Cobrani Mixon, Kirk Belgrave and Brian Lainhart. Simmons is currently with the Philadelphia Eagles, while Mixon is now with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL.
Kent State's 2012 season kicks off Thursday, Aug. 30 against Towson at Dix Stadium. For season tickets call 330-672-2244.
