Shuster Earns National Academic Honor

Kent State junior Mallie Shuster (Newville, Pa.) was named to the 2012 National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic Team Tuesday. Shuster met the qualifying combination of carrying 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and earning a spot in the 157-pound bracket of the NCAA Championships.
Shuster earned an at-large bid to NCAA Championships after winning 26 matches. He placed third at the MAC Championships, going 3-1 with a pin. Shuster also placed fourth at the Mat Town Invitational and was named MAC Wrestler of the Week in December, following dual wins over opponents from Missouri and Ohio State.
At the conclusion of the season, Shuster was selected to the Academic All-MAC Team for the second time in his career. Â He will graduate in December and begin working towards a master's degree in January as he competes in his senior season.
This past season, the Golden Flashes won an outright Mid-American Conference regular season title, going 5-0 in conference duals. Kent State also finished No. 13 in the final NWCA Coaches poll, its highest ranking school history.
