Kent State Grads Hamilton, Kreiner Aim for Olympics in Javelin

Both will compete in Eugene, Ore., at the U.S. Olympic Trials Friday, June 29
KENT, Ohio – A pair of Kent State track and field graduates will aim to be a part of the United States Olympic team this weekend, as Kim Hamilton and Kim Kreiner are two of 24 athletes competing for a spot to participate in the 2012 Olympics in London.
Women's javelin's prelims are slated for Friday, June 29 at 2:30 p.m. PT. The final round, which will feature 12 competitors, is slated for Sunday, July 1 at 2:45 p.m. All competition will be held at Heyward Field at the University of Oregon.
Hamilton, a 2009 graduate of Kent State and a native of Cave Junction, Ore., is back in her home state this week as she aims for her first-ever berth to the Olympics. While at Kent State, Hamilton was an All-American in 2009 in the javelin, finishing fifth nationally at the NCAA Championships.

Kreiner, a native of Akron, Ohio and a 2000 graduate of Kent State, is targeting a return trip to the Olympics after representing the United States in Sydney in 2004 and Beijing in 2008. Kreiner was formerly the U.S. record holder in the javelin in 2002 and her career includes four U.S. titles (2001, 2004-06) as well as a gold medal at the 2003 Pan American Games.
Kreiner and Hamilton are second and third, respectively, all-time in Kent State's record book in the javelin.
