Women's Basketball Heads to Houston for David Jones Memorial Classic

THE GAME
Kent State (1-4) rounds out their non-conference road season this weekend as they take part in the David Jones Memorial Classic in Houston. The Golden Flashes will play host Houston (1-4) on Saturday (Nov. 30) at 3:30 EST and Stephen F. Austin (2-3) on Sunday (Dec.1) at 2:00 EST.
Kent State has already seen improvement from last year in a few categories. They are averaging eleven more points per game and they are averaging seven more made free-throws per game compared to the 2012-13 season. Also, Kent State is averaging one steal and two more blocks per game than they did last year.
The Golden Flashes currently rank fifth in the Mid-American Conference in free throw percentage. Defensively, they are second in the conference in blocked shots and are fourth in steals.
In program history, Kent State has no previous meetings with Houston nor Stephen F. Austin. The Cougars are currently led by Marche' Amerson who is averaging 10 points per game and Te'onna Campbell who is averaging 7.5 rebounds per game. The Ladyjacks are led by Porsha Roberts who is averaging 16.2 points and 5.6 rebounds a game this season
True Freshman Larissa Lurken currenty leads the team by averaging 11.6 points per game in five starts. Lurken has made a team-high seven three-point shots and has sunk 26 of her 27 free-throw attempts.
Mikell Chinn has done well serving as the starting point guard in the past few games. The trasfer out of Garden City Community College leads the team with ten assists and 11 steals. CiCi Shannon is showing her defense prowress, leading the team with 12 blocks, which puts her in second place in the MAC averaging 2.4 denials per game.
