CLEVELAND, Ohio – Sophomore Bridget Wilhelm was named Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Wilhelm posted 2.7 points per set and had a team-best .415 attack percentage to help Kent State to a pair of crucial conference wins over Buffalo and Akron.
She had 11 kills in a 3-2 win over Buffalo on Friday to move past the Bulls in the conference standings, followed by nine kills and a .500 attack percentage in a five-set victory over Akron on Saturday. Wilhelm added seven blocks to finish with 13.5 points as the Golden Flashes swept the Zips for the first time since 2009.
Wilhelm is one of just two MAC East players to receive the honor multiple times this season. She was previously recognized by the conference on Sept. 23 after leading Kent State to a 3-0 record at the Golden Flashes Classic.
Kent State players have earned the weekly honor from the MAC five times this season. In addition to Wilhelm's Offensive Player of the Week honors, sophomore Kelly Hutchison and junior Liz Reikow have also received the award, while senior Hannah Herc was named Defensive Player of the Week earlier in the season.
The Golden Flashes (12-13, 6-6) improved to 5-2 within the East Division over the weekend and hope to continue that success as it travels to Miami and Bowling Green for matches on Friday and Saturday.
