Kent State Volleyball Announces 2013 Spring Schedule

KENT, Ohio—Kent State head coach Don Gromala announced the volleyball team's 2013 spring schedule on Friday (March 8).
"Our spring schedule is looking good," Gromala said. "This will allow us the opportunity to take the individual skills that we have been developing in our workouts and carry them over into game speed activities."
The Golden Flashes will compete on four consecutive Saturdays in April. They open with spring with drills and scrimmaging at Pittsburgh on April 6.
The Flashes will welcome several schools to the M.A.C. Center for the inaugural Golden Flash Spring Spikefest on April 20. The round-robin tournament will begin at 9 a.m. and last through the middle of the afternoon. Ohio State, Xavier, Akron, Cleveland State, and Youngstown State will be among the teams competing.
"We have some pretty good teams coming in for our tournament that will provide us with good competition to go against," Gromala said.
A trip to the Hoosier state for the Indianapolis Collegiate Invitational on April 13 and a tri-match with Akron and Youngstown State, hosted by the Penguins, round out the spring slate.
Five starters and 13 players who saw action this past season return for the Flashes. Senior-to-be captains Hannah Herc (Eden, N.Y.) and Aleksandra Nowak (Danica, Poland) give Kent State a pair of veteran leaders. In the fall, the Flashes were one of the conference's least-experienced squads as half of their roster was new to the program in 2012.
Entering his second season at Kent State, this is Gromala's first opportunity to lead his team during the spring period. He was named as the eighth head coach in program history on April 12 of last year and hopes to put those extra hours that he has in the gym with his team to good use.
"We have most of our team returning and our spring season allows us to continue working together in our system as we prepare for the fall," Gromala said. "Our girls have been getting after it in the gym the past few weeks in order to get ready to go that first weekend."
