Golden Flashes headed to Athens for All-Ohio Championships

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will compete this Friday (April 12) and Saturday (April 13) at the All-Ohio Championships at Ohio University's Goldsberry Track in Athens, Ohio.
A collection of 15 NCAA Division I, II and NAIA teams from the Buckeye State will take part in the two-day meet. In addition to the Golden Flashes, Ohio State, Cincinnati, Dayton, Akron and Miami (Ohio) are also among the Division I schools in the field.
Action will begin at 2 p.m. Friday with the men's decathlon and women's long jump. Saturday's schedule begins at 10 a.m. as the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon continues. The bulk of the running events will take place from 12:40 p.m. until 4:50 p.m. Saturday.
The Flashes are coming off a week where they had several standout performances on both the men's and women's teams April 5-6 during the Northeast Ohio Quad hosted by the University of Akron at Lee Jackson Field.
Freshman Tabitha Jacofsky (Brecksville, Ohio) won the 1,500-meter run in 4 minutes, 49.84 seconds and the 800 in 2:16.76. Sophomore Ann Marie Duffus (North Clarendon, Jamaica) took titles in the 100 in 13.83 seconds and the long jump at 19 feet, 7 inches, edging freshman teammate Dior Delophont (Nancy, France) who leaped 19'-04.75".
Junior Shanequa Williams (Akron, Ohio) finished first in the 200 in 23.99. The 4x400 relay of Williams, sophomores Kaila Gardner (Toledo, Ohio) and Olivia Hallstein (Long Island, N.Y.), and junior Erica Hutson (Akron, Ohio) won in 3:49.28, while freshman Danniel Thomas (Shrewsbery, Jamaica) placed first in the shot put at 49'-11.75".
On the men's side, senior Kenneth Agee (Shaker Heights, Ohio) and freshman Cody Jones (Canton, Ohio) placed 1-2 in the high jump at 6'-09.00". Freshman Reggie Jagers (Cleveland, Ohio) won the discus throw at 183'-08", besting runner-up and sophomore teammate Matthias Tayala (McDonald, Ohio) who had 181'-07".
Senior Brian Florek (Matawan, N.J.) took top honors in the javelin throw with his 218'-00".
Additionally, senior Michael Heller (Stow, Ohio) competed and placed sixth in the 10,000 run in 30:00.38 at the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton (N.J.) University.
Heller (track) and Tayala (field) were selected as the Mid-American Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week on April 10.
Heller's time at the Sam Howell Invitational was a personal best and is the top conference time this spring. Tayala placed second in the hammer throw at the Northeast Ohio Quad with a MAC-best 210'-09", which is 14th in the NCAA, in addition to his runner-up effort in the discus throw.
