Kent State's Josh Kline (Mason, Ohio) has joined the New England Patriots as a priority free agent. The 6-3, 310-pound guard was contacted by the Patriots shortly after the conclusion of the NFL Draft Saturday evening.
A second team All-Mid-American Conference selection this past season, Kline was given a private workout for the Patriots in March after a strong showing at Kent State's Pro Day. In February, Kline competed in the Texas vs. the Nation all-star game.
Kline joins Brian Winters (Hudson, Ohio) as the second linemen from the 2012 squad on an NFL team. The Flashes' left guard and left tackle respectively, played a major role in Kent State's 226 rushing yards per game, which ranked second in the MAC and 18th in the nation. The O-line also had a stretch of allowing just three sacks over eight games.
In 2008, Kline spent a redshirt season with the Flashes, while current Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman served as Kent State's starting quarterback.
The Golden Flashes are coming off an unprecedented 11-win season, going 8-0 in Mid-American Conference play.
