Tayala wins hammer throw on first day of Campbell/Wright Invitational

AKRON, Ohio – Sophomore Matthias Tayala (McDonald, Ohio) won the men's hammer throw with a toss of 205 feet even on the opening day (May 3) of the Campbell/Wright Invitational hosted by the University of Akron at the Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex. Sophomore Jackie Leppelmeier (McComb, Ohio) placed second in the women's hammer throw at 192-03.
Freshman Reggie Jagers (Cleveland, Ohio) was sixth in the men's hammer throw at 157-05.
The javelin, shot put and discus will kick off the field events at 11 a.m. Saturday (May 4), followed by the long jump, triple jump and pole vault at 1 p.m. and the high jump at 2 p.m.
Running events start at 1 p.m. Saturday with a special invitational 10,000-meter run followed by the steeplechase at 2 p.m. Races will be contested all afternoon with the final event, the 4x400 relay, slated to go off at 5:20 p.m.
