Flashes place 11 student-athletes on Outdoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC Team

KENT, Ohio – Kent State continued its success from two weeks ago at the Mid-American Conference championship meet by placing 11 student-athletes on the Outdoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC Team as announced today (May 30) by the league office. The Golden Flashes notched a league-best nine selections on the women's team and two honorees on the men's side.
The Kent State women's team, fresh off winning its fourth-straight MAC Outdoor title with a 50-point margin of victory, placed seniors Keri Dantley (Imperial, Pa.), Diana Dumitrescu (Campulung, Arges Romania), Kate Engerer (Silver Lake, Ohio), Sara Oczypok (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Domenica Rossi (Middleburg Heights, Ohio) and Melinda Sawnor (Rochester, N.Y.); junior Paige Foster (Prior Lake, Minn.); and sophomores Roseanne Erickson (Alexandria, Minn.) and Jackie Leppelmeier (McComb, Ohio) on the Academic All-MAC roster.
Of the 36 selections overall, Dantley, Foster and Oczypok were among the 10 repeat Academic All-MAC honorees. Erickson was the MAC Outdoor long jump champ, while Oczypok won the javelin title.
Erickson, Oczypok, Leppelmeier, Sawnor and Rossi were all NCAA Division I East Regional qualifiers.
The Kent State women's team also had honorable mention Academic All-MAC selections in junior Erica Hutson (Akron, Ohio); and sophomores Corrine Gasaway (Tallmadge, Ohio), Tabitha Jacofsky (Brecksville, Ohio) and Tori Meyer (Deshler, Ohio).
Kent State's men's team, which completed its third-straight MAC Outdoor runner-up finish, scored two Academic All-MAC selections in senior and MAC javelin champ Brian Florek (Matawan, N.J.) and sophomore Miles Dunlap (McDonald, Ohio). Florek was one of just three repeat Academic All-MAC honorees on the 12-team roster.
Both Florek and Dunlap were NCAA Division I East Regional qualifiers. Dunlap was a member the MAC champion 4x400 relay team.
The men's team was also represented with honorable mention Academic All-MAC selections from senior Ryan Thomas (Parma, Ohio); junior Andrew Goodwin (Celina, Ohio); and sophomore Tyler Jones (Stow, Ohio).
Faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions voted on the Outdoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC teams. The Academic All-MAC honor is for student-athletes who have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and have excelled in athletic competition. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence weren't eligible for the award.
