Track and Field teams travel to Akron for MAC Championships

KENT, Ohio – Kent State competes tomorrow, May 9, through Saturday, May 11, at the 2013 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the University of Akron at the Lee R. Jackson Track and Field Complex. The Golden Flashes have won three straight women's outdoor titles and five overall, while the men have finished runner-up each of the past two seasons with their last title in 2004.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for youth (ages 3-14) for all three days. Individual sessions are $10 for adults and $5 for youth. All students of MAC schools are free with valid ID. All tickets can be purchased at the main gate on the day of the event.
Parking is free all three days. Fans are encouraged to park in Lot 9, which is on the corner of Spicer and East Exchange near the football stadium. This is the lot closest to the main entrance of the facility. Click here for a map.
Competition begins at 10 a.m. May 9 with the women's hammer throw trials and finals. Trials and finals for the men's and women's javelin, women's pole vault, and men's and women's 10,000-meter runs will also be contested on the opening day.
The Golden Flashes have several standout athletes competing at the MAC Championships. Here's a look at some of the names to watch:
MEN:
• Brandon Bailey (Sr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) – Ranked first in the MAC and 93rd in the nation in the 400 in 47.21 seconds.
• Jacob Swords (So., Akron, Ohio) – Ranked second in the MAC and 78th in the nation in the 800 in 1:50.12.
• William Barnes (Fr., Columbus, Ohio) – Ranked third in the MAC and 82nd in the nation in the 110 hurdles in 14.20.
• Michael Heller (Sr., Stow, Ohio) – Ranked first in the MAC in the 10,000 at 30:00.38.
• Cody Jones (Fr., Canton, Ohio) – Ranked third in the MAC and 82nd in the nation in the high jump at 6 feet, 10.75 inches.
• Jesse Oxley (Fr., Sugar Grove, Ohio) – Ranked fifth in the MAC and 72nd in the nation in the pole vault at 16-8.75.
• Matthias Tayala (So., McDonald, Ohio) – Ranked first in the MAC and 34th in the nation in the discus throw at 185-7. Ranked first in the MAC and eighth in the nation in the hammer throw at 217-9.
• Reggie Jagers (Fr., Cleveland, Ohio) – Ranked third in the MAC and 41st in the nation in the discus throw at 183-8.
• Brian Florek (Sr., Matawan, N.J.) – Ranked second in the MAC and 50th in the nation in the javelin at 218-0.
• Dexter Shreve (Sr., Redkey, Ind.) - Ranked fifth in the MAC and 77th in the nation in the decathlon with 6,750 points.
• Tyler Jones (So., Stow, Ohio) – Ranked sixth in the MAC and 84th in the nation in the decathlon with 6,702 points.
WOMEN:
• Shanequa Williams (Jr., Akron, Ohio) – Ranked first in the MAC and 98th in the nation in the 400 in 54.45. Ranked second in the MAC and 97th in the nation in the 200 in 23.84.
• Dior Delophont (Fr., Nancy, France) – Ranked first in the MAC and 11th in the nation in the high jump at 6-0. Ranked first in the MAC and 55th in the nation in the triple jump at 41-2.25.
• Domenica Rossi (Sr., Middleburg Heights, Ohio) – Ranked third in the MAC and 69th in the nation in the pole vault at 12-10.25.
• Roseanne Erickson (So., Alexandria, Minn.) – Ranked first in the MAC and 28th in the nation in the long jump at 20-4.25.
• Ann Marie Duffus (Jr., North Clarendon, Jamaica) – Ranked fifth in the MAC and 92nd in the nation in the long jump at 19-7.
• Joh'vonnie Mosley (Jr., Youngstown, Ohio) – Ranked first in the MAC and 33rd in the nation in the shot put at 52-9.25. Ranked fifth in the MAC and 84th in the nation in the discus throw at 162-6.
• Danniel Thomas (Fr., Shrewsbery, Jamaica) – Ranked third in the MAC and 54th in the nation in the shot put at 51-2.75. Ranked third in the MAC and 36th in the nation in the discus throw at 172-3.
• Jackie Leppelmeier (So., McComb, Ohio) – Ranked third in the MAC and 28th in the nation in the hammer throw at 199-5.
• Sara Oczypok (Sr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) – Ranked second in the MAC and 46th in the nation in the javelin at 152-11.
