
Former and current Golden Flashes to compete at USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Kent State will be well represented at the 2013 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships taking place through Sunday (June 23) at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.ย
Kim Hamilton headlines a quartet of Kent State alumni competing with more than 800 athletes all seeking a coveted spot on Team USA for the World Outdoor Championships Aug. 10-18 in Moscow, Russia. ย ย
Hamilton is slated to compete tonight (June 20) in the javelin.ย She was an All-American for Kent State in 2009 after placing fifth in the javelin at the NCAA national meet and competed at the 2012 Olympic Trials.
Another former Kent State All-American, Nia Henderson, is also in Des Moines.ย Henderson competes Saturday (June 22) in the shot put.ย She was 12th in the shot put at the 2008 NCAA national meet.
Two other former Kent State standouts will be in the distance events.ย Tony Jordanek will run tonight (June 20) in the 1,500-meter preliminaries, while Aiman Scullion competes tonight in the 10,000 finals.
Three current Golden Flashes โ freshmen William Barnes (Columbus, Ohio) and Reggie Jagers (Solon, Ohio), and sophomore Chanitta Westbrooks (Cleveland, Ohio) โ will be among the top junior athletes in the country, ages 16-19, looking to represent Team USA at the Pan Am Junior Athletics Championships Aug. 23-25 in Medellin, Colombia.
Barnes was scheduled to compete in the 110-meter hurdle preliminaries this morning (June 20).ย
Jagers is slated to compete in the discus this afternoon (June 20).ย He finished 18th in the discus two weeks ago at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.
Westbrooks will run tomorrow afternoon (June 21) in the 200 prelims.
