MT. PLEASANT, S.C.  – Junior Stephanie Haugh scored in the 21st minute to lead the Kent State women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over the College of Charleston at Patriots Point on Sunday afternoon. The victory improved the Golden Flashes to 4-2 overall, while the Cougars dropped to 2-4.   Haugh and seniors Katherine Lawrence and Morgan Mah earned a spot on the All-Tournament team for their solid effort throughout the weekend. Â
"I was very happy with how the team came out and competed today," said Head Coach Rob Marinaro. Â "It was a solid road win against a good team."Â
Kent State senior Jaclyn Dutton earned her first point of the season when she assisted in today's game-winning goal. Dutton played the ball over the middle to Haugh, who scored her first goal of the season on the volley, to give the Flashes a 1-0 lead over the Cougars.
Â
The Golden Flashes kept the College of Charleston goalkeepers busy, as Dutton fired off a shot just one minute later, but was stopped by Eli Sarasola.  Another good look came in the 33rd minute when Calli Rinicella ripped a shot toward the net but was sent away by Sarasola.
Â
Kent State led 8-5 in shots in the first period and also had the lone corner kick. Goalkeepers Stephanie Senn and Sarasola each had three saves entering halftime.
Â
The College of Charleston came out on the attack after the intermission. In the 57th minute, Senn made a diving save after a shot by McCallie Jones, and Danielle Mellem had two good looks over the next 10 minutes that were picked up by Senn to remain with a lead that would eventually win the game.
Â
Kent State edged the Cougars in shots, 12-11, and led 4-0 in corner kicks. Senn had a season-high eight saves in 90 minutes in goal, while Taylor Avery and Eli Sarasola combined for five saves in goal for Charleston.
Â
The Golden Flashes will remain on the road to play Cincinnati at 1 p.m. on Sept. 15. Kent State will then host Youngstown State (9/20), Central Michigan (9/27) and Bowling Green (9/29).
