Flashes To Host Cornell On Senior Day

Kent, OHIO- The Kent State Soccer team will honor their seniors on Sunday at Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium when they welcome in the Cornell Big Red of the Ivy League with a first kick set for 1 P.M. The seniors that will be honored with a pre-game ceremony will be Ava Todd, Allison Burkey, Kiyomi McCausland, Leah Shaffer, Josie Morgan and Karsyn Teffner.
The Golden Flashes will wrap up their home non-conference schedule as their previous game with the Oakland Grizzlies was canceled due to severe weather in the Northeast Ohio area on Thursday evening.
Scouting Cornell
The Big Red have started the 2026 season with a 2-2-1 record including wins against Lafayette and St. Bonaventure, while coming off a season where they finished 5-7-4 (2-5 Ivy League).
They return two of their top five leading scorers from a year ago in Raya Leiken and Alanna Colbert with five and four points respectively this season. Leiken has two goals and one assist while Colbert has produced a goal and two helpers.
Another returner in Emily Gibbons leads Cornell this season with seven points off of three goals and an assist. Junior midfielder Ivy Tolbert has also contributed a goal for the team this season. As a team the Big Red average 13.6 shots per game.
Starting in net for Cornell University will be freshman Sofia Kerrigan who has played in all 450 minutes for her team so far this season. She has produced 19 saves, and two shutouts on 62 shots faced in five games of play.
Series History
Sunday will mark the second all-time meeting between the two schools as the first-ever meeting came a year ago in Ithaca, New York. Kent State scored in the first 10 minutes, but Cornell scored in the second half to end the game in a 1-1 draw.
Up Next
After Senior Day against the Big Red, the Golden Flashes will finish out their non-conference schedule on the road. Next Friday, they will travel to the lone star state to take on the Texas Tech Raiders of the Big 12 for a 8 P.M. start.
