
Women’s Soccer Travels to Cincinnati on Sunday

KENT, Ohio - The Kent State women's soccer team travels to Cincinnati (1-3-0) for a 1 p.m. game against the Bearcats at Gettler Stadium on Sunday. The Golden Flashes are currently 4-2-0 on the year, while Cincinnati is just 1-6. Fans can view the game live, for a fee, on gobearcats.com or track the game via gametracker.
The Golden Flashes went 1-1 at the College of Charleston Cup last weekend, defeating the host Cougars 1-0 but falling to Coastal Carolina 1-0. Junior Stephanie Haugh scored in the 21st minute to lead Kent State to its victory over Charleston to earn All-Tournament Team honors. Teammates Katherine Lawrence and Morgan Mah were also selected to the All-Tournament Team.
Jessacca Girona leads the KSU offense with 20 shots, including a team-high two goals. Stephanie Senn led the defensive effort with a season-high eight saves during the win over Charleston, after a seven-save effort in the opening game vs. Coastal Carolina. Senn has a 1.05 goals against average and an .806 save percentage on the year.
Cincinnati dropped its third consecutive game on Friday evening in a 3-0 loss to Xavier. After a 2-1 victory vs. Marshall in its season opener, Cincinnati went on for three straight losses (Miami, Nebraska and Dayton), and earned a 4-1 win vs. UMass-Lowell on Sept. 1. Since then, the Bearcats have fallen to Long Beach State, UC Santa Barbara and most recently, the Musketeers.
Jae Atkinson leads the offense with four points on a goal and an assist, followed by Katy Couperus with three on a goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Kristina Utley is 1-3-0 for the Bearcats and has allowed 12 goals in 360:00. Natalie Smith has seen 270:00 minutes of action and is 0-3-0 on the year.
After Sunday's game, the Golden Flashes will be back at home to host Youngstown State at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20.
