KENT, Ohio- The Kent State Soccer team returns home to Zoeller Field at Dix Stadium for the third time of a three-game home-stand on Sunday when they take on their rival in the Akron Zips in a pivotal Mid-American Conference contest.
Last Time Out
The Kent State Soccer team picked-up a big three points in the Mid-American Conference standings in a win at home over the Bowling Green Falcons on Sunday by a score of 2-1.
Kent State started off the scoring early in the contest as Abby Breitshuch scored on a header in the sixth-minute on a perfectly placed corner kick from Sam Miller to put the Flashes up first.Â
Bowling Green responded with a goal of their own 12 minutes later, and with tough defense from both sides for the rest of the half; the score would remain tied at one a piece heading into the halftime break.
The game-winning goal came in the 54th-minute as the Flashes moved the ball beautifully in transition. Josie Morgan passed the ball to Ali Weibel on the right side of the field who placed the ball right in front of the net for Lila Simon to capitalize on the header for her sixth goal of the season. With strong defense the rest of the way for the blue and gold, it was enough to give them a 2-1 victory that earned them three points in the conference standings.
Kent State finished the game out-shooting the Falcons by a count of 11-9 with seven shots-on-goal compared to four from BG. However, the Falcons won the tally in the corner kick department 5-2.
