THE GAME
Kent State (3-11, 0-3 MAC) returns home to the M.A.C. Center Wednesday night (Jan. 15) when they take on the Ohio Bobcats (7-7, 2-1 MAC) at 7:00pm.
In their first Mid-American Conference road game of the year this past Sunday, Kent State fell 31-55 at Ball State. Both offenses were unable to get much going in the first half as neither team shot more than 25% from field goal range. However, the Cardinals were able to pick up their pace in the second to come away with the win. The Golden Flashes did have a good defensive performance in the contest. They totaled 13 steals and eight blocks. They also equaled the Cardinals with 40 rebounds.
The Golden Flashes started the month of December by winning two in a row for the first time since January of the 2011-12 season. With three wins already in their keeping, they have already matched last year's win total. Their most recent victory, a 69-46 domination of Niagara, was the team's largest win-margin since December 1, 2010.
In their three victories, Kent State is averaging 18.3 made free-throws, 44 rebounds and 16 turnovers with a +1.7 turnover margin. They also have had at least three players reach double digits in scoring in the three victories
Ohio sits at .500 overall and is 2-1 in the conference with wins against Miami and Western Michigan that came after a loss at Northern Illinois. Three Bobcats are averaging double-digits in scoring, led by Kiyanna Black who is averaging 13 a game. As a team, Ohio ranks third in the conference in turnover margin and third in steals. They have also made the second-most three-point field goals and have the third-best defensive rebound percentage.
