KENT, Ohio – Kent State head coach Herb Page announced on Friday (Jan. 31) the addition of sophomore Sebastian Czyz Bendsen to the men's golf roster as a transfer student from Division II Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia.
As a native of Denmark, Bendsen will become the first European player to tee it up for the Golden Flashes men's team when he plays in his first Division I tournament this spring.
"We are excited to add a player who won three times at the Division II level, and we are also very much looking forward to seeing how he competes in Division I," said Page. "Sebastian is highly motivated, well trained and an excellent student. Those are all qualities that we look for when bringing a player into our program."
Bendsen had 10 top-10 finishes during parts of two seasons at Davis & Elkins, including three as medalist. That list of victories includes a four-shot win early in his sophomore year at the 2013 Challenge at Mystic Rock, which is played on the same Nemacolin-Mystic Rock Course near Pittsburgh that was the site of Kent State alum Ben Curtis' 2006 PGA Tour victory in the 84 Lumber Classic.
As a freshman, Bendsen finished third at the NCAA Division II Super Regional to qualify as an individual for the National Championship, where he finished 17th. Bendsen also qualified for the All Regional Ping Team in a freshman campaign that saw him post a scoring average of 74.95.
"Sebastian is a solid ball striker with an excellent short game," said Kent State associate head coach Rob Wakeling. "He does a great job of managing his way around the golf course. We are excited to have him here at Kent State."
The Golden Flashes begin their spring schedule March 3-4 when they travel to the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C. for the Davidson College Invitational.
