KENT, Ohio- Former Kent State golfer, John Hahn '11, was in desperate need of a great round to keep his European Tour status and make the cut as he entered the fourth round in this week's final stage of European Tour Qualifying School in Spain. Tied for 104th (out of 150 players), Hahn recorded six pars and 12 birdies for a 12-under 58 at the PGA Catalunya Resort.
"The 58 by John Hahn in Spain is just spectacular," said Director of Golf/Head Men's Golf Coach Herb Page. "Shooting 59 has always been a target most professionals never realize, and John bettered that by a shot. John has already enjoyed some success as a professional, and this is only a hint at what is to come. We continue to root for all of our alums out in their various tours across the world, and we are absolutely thrilled for John right now."
The Top-70 after four rounds make it to the final two rounds, where the Top-25 are then awarded with cards for next season's Tour. However, Hahn's achievements won't go down in official records because preferred lies are being used in this event due to soggy course conditions.
Hahn, a Hudson native and a three-time All-American and Mid-American Conference Player of the Year while at Kent State, moved from a tie for 104th into the Top-15 with just two rounds remaining.
With the Golden Flashes, Hahn won seven tournament titles in his career, tying the school record held by Eric Frishette (1990-94). He also ranks third on the record books with career Top-10 finishes (26) and second in scoring average (72.43).
