Flashes Host Rematch With Ball State on Sunday

THE GAME
Kent State (3-16, 0-8 MAC) returns home to the M.A.C. Center Sunday afternoon (Feb. 2) as they host Ball State at 2:00pm.
The last time out, the Golden Flashes fell 43-65 on the road at Northern Illinois. Kent State did not allow Northern Illinois to get a lead larger than ten points in the first half until the Huskies took a 33-20 advantage at halftime. In the second half, Kent State had the lead within nine points with 9:39 to play, but could not get any closer, as Northern Illinois pulled away with the victory. Montia Johnson posted a double-double in the contest with 16 points and ten rebounds. She also added in two steals. Ashley Evans followed her in scoring with seven.
The Golden Flashes started the month of December by winning two in a row for the first time since January of the 2011-12 season. With three wins already in their keeping, they have already matched last year's win total. Their most recent victory, a 69-46 domination of Niagara, was the team's largest win-margin since December 1, 2010.
Last season, Kent State started off the month of February with success. They fought hard for their first conference win of the year on February 3rd in a 57-55 victory on the road at Ohio.
Ball State sits at an even .500 in the MAC with four wins (at Eastern Michigan, vs Kent State, at Ohio, vs Western Michigan) and four losses (at Akron, vs Bowling Green, at Toledo and vs Buffalo). The Cardinals are led by Nathalie Fontaine who is averaging 16.8 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game. She is also tied for a team-high ten blocks. Behind her, Brittany Carter is averaging 12.6 points and has a team-high 86% free-throw percentage.

• Kent State basketball ball is teaming up with Akron Children's Hospital on behalf of the Reach Out and Read Program, which prepares America's youngest children to succeed in school by partnering with doctors to prescribe books and encourage families to read together.
• Donation bins to collect books will be set out at the M.A.C. Center for our games on February 9, February 23 and March 2.
• Donations will also be accepted at the men's games on February 1.
