The Kent State Indoor Track and Field Teams host the 2014 Mid-American Conference Championships this Friday, February 28 and Saturday, March 1 in the Kent State Field House.
Action is set to start at 10 a.m. Friday with the men's heptathlon 60m dash and the women's 20-pound weight throw.
The Golden Flashes are heading into the championships after a record setting year – Kent State has had an all-time indoor record broke in every month of the season, December, January and February. Two men's records fell, one in December and the latest in February along with one women's record in January.
"Everything was going great, my steps were on, I felt good" Oxley stated about breaking the record, "it was just one of those days."
"I felt really good … my throws were loose and in rhythm" Leppelmeier stated. After the distance was read, Leppelmeier said "Nia Henderson (previous record holder), who was also competing at the meet, she came over and congratulated me on the record."
"I felt okay when I went to throw … It was nice to get the record, I didn't really expect that" Tayala said, "It was good to get it out of the way, at the first meet of the season".
"I didn't know it was going to come right before MACs," Barnes mentioned about the facility record "I felt amazing going into that race, and felt like I had something to prove to myself."
The Golden Flashes head into the Championships with seven individual total top marks in the MAC. Roseanne Erickson and Wayne Gordon hold the top times in the women's and men's 200m dash, respectively, as Erickson also has the top mark in the women's long jump. Ann Marie Duffus owns the top mark time in the 60m hurdles with Dior Delophont having the number one height in the women's high jump. Danniel Thomas is first in the MAC in women's shot put as Matthias Tayala is first in men's weight throw.
After the MAC Championships, Kent State track and field heads to the NCAA Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15.
