MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – A lack of timely hitting and costly defensive blunders resulted in an 8-0 loss for Kent State (8-7) against Appalachian State (5-14) in the College of Charleston Tournament on Saturday afternoon (Mar. 15).
Three errors in the late innings allowed Appalachian State to double its run total and the Kent State bats could not find runs of their own despite nine hits on the day.
The Mountaineers posted a definitive four-run 5th inning on a RBI single, RBI double and a two-run blast over the wall in left field.
They plated two in the 8th and 9th each thanks to errors by the Golden Flashes to secure the 8-0 victory.
Kent State did pick up nine hits it the game but left ten runners on the bases. Sawyer Polen and Jon Wilson both had two hits in the game; no Golden Flash hit for extra bases.
Nick Jensen-Clagg (0-1) went five innings in the start with six hits, four runs, no walks and five strikeouts.
Kent State concludes play in the College of Charleston Tournament on Sunday (Mar. 16) with a 10:00am game against Michigan.
