YPSILANTI, Mich. - The freshman duo of Eric Lauer and Andy Ravel led the way on the mound as Kent State's (13-9, 3-1) offense collected 10 runs on 16 hits to beat Eastern Michigan (9-12, 0-4) 10-2 in the series opener.

Lauer went six innings in the start while only allowing one hit and one run. He walked three while striking out four batters. Ravel threw the final three innings with three hits, one run and one strikeout.

The Golden Flashes broke the game open with two runs in the 3^rd inning beginning when Jeff Revesz singled and came home on a sacrifice bunt by Alex Miklos. Miklos reached and advanced on an error, enabling him to come home in the next at-bat on a groundout.

Kent State really opened things up in the 5^th inning when they scored five runs in the frame. It all started when the leadoff batter Jon Wilson was hit by a pitch followed by a Miklos single. Justin Wagler picked up the first RBI of the inning in the next at-bat on a base hit. Zarley Zalewski was then also hit by a pitch before Cody Koch smacked a double off the wall in right-center to empty the bases. Curtis Olvey followed him with a double on the first pitch he saw in a pinch-hit appearance to make it a 7-1 game.

The Golden Flashes tacked on two more runs in the 7^th after a sacrifice fly by Wagler and base hit by Miklos. They plated their tenth run in the 8^th when Curtis Olvey singled and scored later on a single by Revesz.

Eastern Michigan scored its second run with two outs in the 9^th before a ground ball to the pitcher's mound ended the game.

Miklos went 3-for-4 in the game with a RBI and a walk. Wilson, Koch, Olvey, Sutton and Revesz all collected two hits.

The teams meet again on Saturday (Mar. 29) for game two. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00pm.
