Golden Flashes Clinch Series in 6-1 Win Over Eagles

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Kent State (14-9, 4-1) had everything working in a 6-1 series-clinching win over Eastern Michigan (9-13, 0-5) on Saturday afternoon (Mar. 29).

"Our offense had a consistent approach all game," said Head Coach Jeff Duncan. "We cashed-in late but we executed early in the game. We did a great job offensively."

The Golden Flashes plated a run in the 1^st inning after Jon Wilson started the game with a base hit, advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Alex Miklos, stole third, then scored on a single by Justin Wagler.

T.J. Sutton picked up a RBI double in the 4^th to score Cody Koch who had singled in the previous at-bat.

Eastern Michigan was able to get on the board with a two-out double and single in the 6^th, but it was all the home team could muster in the game.

Kent State added three insurance runs in the 8^th inning with the help of Eastern Michigan errors. Sawyer Polen reached on an error by the third baseman before Conner Simonetti reached when the left fielder dropped a fly ball. Jeff Revesz then picked up a RBI on a base hit. Two more runs came in later on a RBI single by Wilson after pinch-runner Jake Neuschaefer and Revesz completed a double steal.

They added one more tally in the 9^th when Koch and Polen both singled in the inning, making it a 6-1 game.

Nick Jensen-Clagg (1-1) pitched a great game in the start to earn the win. He went seven strong innings allowing just five hits, one run and one walk while striking out six. Josh Pierce followed him with two innings shutout innings of relief with one hit, two walks and one strikeout.

"I thought Nick Jensen-Clagg had an unreal start," Duncan said. "He pitched really well. He did a great job."

Three Flashes had three-hit days. Miklos went 3-for-4 with a sacrifice while Wilson and Koch both finished 3-for-5. Wilson led the team with two RBI.

Kent State will finish the series at Eastern Michigan on Sunday (Mar. 30) in a 1:00pm start.
