Gymnastics Wins The MAC Regular Season Title on Senior Night

KENT, Ohio – Kent State's gymnastics team defeated Bowling Green 196.225-195.925 Thursday, March 6 in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center as the Golden Flashes honored their seniors, Marie Case, Nikki Moore and Ashley Transue.
The Golden Flashes improve to 9-3 overall and ended the Mid-American Conference portion of their schedule with a perfect 6-0. It is the second consecutive season they went 6-0 and won the regular season title. Bowling Green falls to 7-7 and 4-2 in the MAC.
After going into the last rotation down, 147.175-146.750, Kent State rallied back with a season best floor routine score of 49.475. Senior Marie Case landed a career best 9.975, which tied her for second on Kent State's record book for individual meet records with her 9.975.
Case took first on the floor, 9.975, while Samantha Gordon and Jordan Hardison each tied for second with a 9.900. The 9.900 for Gordon and Hardison are career bests.
"It was stressful and we knew we needed to go out there to perform our best floor routine." Kent State gymnastics head coach Brice Biggin stated. "That floor team did a phenomenal job."
With a team score of 48.850 on balance beam, Case took first with a 9.875, as Nicolle Eastman tied for fifth with a 9.825.
Kent State saw a score of 48.950 on the uneven parallel bars led by Case who turned in her career best 9.925, while she tied for first. Rebecca Osmer tied her season best 9.825, for fifth place with Lawless setting a season best 9.800 on bars for fifth.
Scoring 48.950 on the vault, Kent State was led by Chelsea Drooger who took second place with a 9.850 as Case tied for third with a 9.825. Kelsey Lawless placed fifth on vault with a 9.800.
Case finished the night with a first place finish in the All-Around with a career best 39.600, which is also second best in school history and pushes her career point total to 1,534.300.
Coach Biggin added about Case, "Marie is the type of kid that just shines every week. She takes pride in her ability to help the team out. Obviously you look at it as an individual accomplishment but that's not the way she goes about it … that's a team effort that she puts in."
Seniors Ashley Transue and Nikki Moore competed on the uneven parallel bars and the balance beam, respectively, as Transue scored a 9.775 on bars and Moore a 9.675 on the beam.
Kent State gymnastics returns to the gymnasium Saturday, March 15 when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. at 7 p.m. to take on Pittsburgh and Centenary.
