LYNCHBURG, Va. – Kent State (7-5) was only able to bring four runs across in two games at Liberty (0-0) on Saturday (Mar. 8), losing game one 6-2 and game two 4-2.
Â
In the opening matchup, Liberty got on the board early with a two-run 1st inning and posted a three-run 7th before Kent State was able to score any.
Â
The Golden Flashes' turn came in the 8th. Curtis Olvey opened the inning with a double and came home in the next at-bat on a Zach Beckner single. Beckner himself came home later on a RBI base hit by Alex Miklos.
Â
Brian Clark (1-3) suffered the loss, going 5.2 innings in the start with six hits, two run, two walks and four strikeouts.
Â
Beckner was the only Flash with multiple hits in the first game. He went 2-for-4 with a RBI and run scored.
Â
The Golden Flashes were able to take a lead in the second game, scoring a run in the 2nd when Zarley Zalewski began the inning with a walk and eventually came around to score on a Tommy Monnot single. They made it a 2-0 game with a run in the 4th as Monnot picked up another RBI on a double to left center, scoring Cody Koch who had walked early in the frame.
Â
However, Liberty spoiled the lead with a two-run 4th and added on a run each in the 7th and 8th to come out with the win.
Â
Eric Lauer (3-1) threw the most innings yet in his young career, but also picked up his first career loss. The lefty went 6.2 innings with five hits, three runs and a career mark with seven strikeouts.
Â
Monnot was the only one with a multiple hit second game, going 2-for-4 with both of the team's RBI.Â
