The first day of spring practice also marked the first official day on the job for new Running Backs Coach Don Treadwell Tuesday morning. The former head coach at Miami, Treadwell brings a wealth of experience and a great understanding of the Mid-American Conference.
"We're very excited to make Coach Treadwell a part of this program," Head Coach Paul Haynes said. "I know we just made this program better with the knowledge and experience Coach Treadwell brings."
Treadwell spent the 2011-2013 seasons as the RedHawks' head coach and has served as an offensive coordinator on five different Division I teams over the course of 12 seasons.
"I've known him for a long time and I always thought what a bonus it would be to work with him," Haynes said. "If you look at where he's been…he was a player in this conference, he was an assistant coach in this conference, he was a head coach in this conference, and he was an offensive coordinator at major programs."
After a successful playing career at Miami, Treadwell began his coaching career at Youngstown State in 1986. He was the offensive coordinator for the Penguins during their national title season of 1991. Treadwell then returned to his alma mater in 1992 and has been in the FBS ever since, with stops at Cincinnati, Stanford, Boston College, NC State, Ball State and Michigan State.
"Not only does he know the Xs and Os, he's very well respected among football coaches as a person," Haynes said. "And he fits in to what want for this program."
As Treadwell hits the ground running, Kent State continues its spring season throughout the month of April, concluding with its spring game on April 26.
