BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – In a back and forth game, Kent State was able to come out with a 7-5 win to beat Bowling Green in the opening game of the series on Friday (Apr. 25).

With a Ball State win over Central Michigan, the Golden Flashes are now tied with the Chippewas in second place overall, just a half game back of the Cardinals.

Both teams scored two runs each in the 3^rd and 4^th innings. Kent State started things after walk by Zach Beckner, hit by pitch by Sawyer Polen and single by Jon Wilson loaded the bases. Alex Miklos then singled home a run before Justin Wagler scored another on a sacrifice fly.

Bowling Green tied the game on two RBI singles in the bottom before the Golden Flashes scored two more again in the 4^th on a Cody Koch double and a two-run homerun by T.J. Sutton. However, the Falcons answered again to tie the game and then they took the lead with a run in the 6^th.

The game remained that way until a big frame for the Flashes in the 8^th. After Wilson and Miklos singled, Koch continued his hot hitting with a three-run shot to left field to secure the win.

Starter Eric Lauer threw 4.2 innings with six hit, four runs, five walks and four strikeouts in the no decision. Dan Kopcak then came in the game to pitch three innings for the win, allowing just one hit and one run. Eric Dorsch was his usual self in the 9^th, shutting down the Bowling Green offense to earn his tenth save of the season. Dorsch now ranks 4^th all-time in career saves and is tied for 7^th for the single season record.

Koch's bat had the biggest boom of the day as he went 3-for-4 with a double and homerun. He led the team with three RBI. Wilson, Miklos and Sutton all had two hits and scored a run.

Kent State and Bowling Green meet again on Saturday in a 1:05pm game. Every pitch will be covered on Golden Flashes iHeart Radio.
