Gem by Jensen-Clagg Not Quite Enough as Baseball's Season Comes to a Close

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Through 8.2 innings, Kent State looked to stay alive in NCAA Regional play behind an incredible pitching performance from starter Nick Jensen-Clagg. However, Kentucky clawed its way back in to score four runs in the 9th inning to take the game 4-2 and end the Golden Flashes' season in dramatic fashion.
Facing the National Player of the Year in Kentucky's A.J. Reed, Kent State started the game with four straight singles, including the big bases-loaded shot from Zarley Zalewski to score two. It was all they could plate in the inning as runners were left on second and third.
With the ball then in Jensen-Clagg's hands, the sophomore pitched the light's out performance of his career to-date, as one of the best offenses in the country didn't get their second hit until 5.2 innings in, and their third came two innings later as Kent State's righty had complete command of Kentucky.
The Golden Flashes' defense dazzled along the way, including a bare-handed out by catcher Jeff Revesz on a Wildcat bunt attempt in the 8th.
However, down to two outs, Kentucky gained momentum after a single and a RBI double by Reed. After a pitching change, strikeout and two walks, the Wildcats took the lead on another double and added one more on a single to make the game 4-2.
Senior T.J. Sutton started the bottom of the 9th with a single, but the next three batters went down as Kent State's season came to an end.
Jensen-Clagg finished with five hits, two runs, one walk and four strikeouts in the best start of his young career. John Fasola followed with one hit and two runs with two walks and a strikeout to suffer the loss. Eric Dorsch finished the game on the mound, allowing one hit but getting the Wildcats' final out.
The Golden Flashes had nine hits in the game, including two each from Jon Wilson and Cody Koch.
Kent State finished the year 36-23.
