Conners, Pendrith & Hanzel Compete at U.S. Amateur Championship

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Kent State's Corey Conners '14, Taylor Pendrith '14 and Dr. Doug Hanzel '79 began competition today at the U.S. Amateur Championship hosted at the Atlanta Athletic Club.
Conners, the Mid-American Conference Co-Player of the Year and a first team All-Mac selection, is currently tied for seventh after the first round of the tournament. The Ontario native is three-under par 69, just four strokes back of leader Jimmy Beck (-6). Conners birdied six holes, including four on the front nine, and bogied three times on the 7.437-yard, par 72 Riverside Course.
Pendrith, who is coming off a tough loss during a three-hole playoff at the Canadian Men's Amateur Championship last week, is tied for 44th with an even par (71). Pendrith, a Richmond Hill, Ontario, native carded pars on 14 of 18 holes today on the Highlands Course and birdied just twice.
Hanzel, the 2013 USGA Senior Amateur champion, went 6-over on the Highlands Course and is tied for 236th place.
Hanzel will tee of tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. on the Redlands Course, followed by Conners at 8:35 a.m. on the Highlands Course. Pendrith will begin at 9:35 on the Riverside Course.
