Pendrith & Conners Qualify for Match Play at U.S. Amateur

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – After being tied for 44th after round one on the Highlands Course at the U.S. Amateur Championship, Taylor Pendrith '14 is now tied for eighth after carding a four-under-par after the second round of stroke play on the Riverside Course.
The Richmond Hill, Ontario native and No. 2 ranked amateur in Canada, Pendrith opened with a round of even par on the Highlands Course yesterday. Pendrith (71-68=139) had a solid 4-under on the Riverside course today with four birdies and an eagle to place him just four strokes behind leaders, Taylor Moore and Lee McCoy.
Conners (69-73=142), who was in seventh yesterday after a 3-under on the Riverside Course, moved down to 24th after shooting 2-over par on the Highlands Course today. The No. 1 ranked amateur in Canada from Listowel, Ont., birdied just three holes and also had two bogies and a double bogey.
Also competing is former Kent State golfer, Dr. Doug Hanzel '79. Hanzel (77-77=154) is 11-over after going 5-over today.
All of the matches begin tomorrow and will be played on the par-71 7,490-yard Highlands Course. Match play, which is one-on-one competition, will run through Sunday, where the title will be decided in a 36-hole match.
Conners tees off with Scottie Scheffler (Dallas, Texas) at 11:20 a.m., while Pendrith is paired up with Jonathan Chang (Corona, Calif.) and tees off at 1:20 p.m.
