
Capehart's Hat-Trick Leads Soccer to 3-0 Victory over EMU

KENT, Ohio- Kent State sophomore Donavan Capehart (Orient, Ohio) netted a hat-trick as the Golden Flashes defeated Eastern Michigan 3-0 on Sunday afternoon. Capehart scored her 9th, 10th and 11th goals of the season as the Golden Flashes won their second straight contest.
With the win, Kent State improved to 9-5-2 overall and 5-3-0 in Mid-American Conference play. The loss dropped Eastern Michigan to 5-9-2 overall and 2-5-1 in the MAC.
Capehart's first goal came in the 12th minute and proved to be all Kent State needed in what was a commanding victory for the Golden Flashes. Capehart was in the middle of the 18-yard box on a Kent State corner kick and after the initial cross was deflected, received a pass from sophomore Hayden Pascoe (Belle Vernon, Pa.). Capehart then booted a shot past Eagles goalkeeper Kaylin Williams.
Capehart then added two goals in the second half for her 10th and 11th of the season. In the 54th minute, Capehart's goal was assisted by juniors Abbie Lawson (Stow, Ohio) and Morgan Williams (Cranberry Township, Pa.). Then in the 86th minute, with the result already secured Capehart banged home a goal to complete the hat-trick.
Freshman Cassandra Sauter (Greensburg, Pa.) played a ball to junior Jenna Hellstrom (Sudbury, Ontario) who played it off for Capehart in from of goal. Capehart then put the ball in the back of the net for her team leading 11th goal of the season.
The Golden Flashes dominated every aspect of the game as they controlled play in the midfield and had an advantage in shots and corner kicks earned. The Golden Flashes enjoyed a 25-5 advantage in shots and 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Kent State defense pitched a shutout freshman Ashleah McDonald (Langley, British Columbia) made three saves in goal for Golden Flashes.
With Sunday's win, Kent State remains unbeaten at home with a 6-0-1 record at Zoeller Field. The Golden Flashes have one remaining home game on Thursday, October 29th when they host Ohio at 3 p.m.
Kent State is back in action on Friday, October 23rd at 4 p.m. when it travels to play Central Michigan. The Golden Flashes will play Central Michigan then travel to play Toledo on Sunday, October 25th before wrapping up MAC regular season play at home against Ohio on October 29th
