
Soccer Travels to Central Michigan & Toledo

KENT, Ohio- The Kent State women's soccer team hits the road for its final road trip of the regular season this weekend. The Golden Flashes (9-5-2, 5-3 MAC) will take on Central Michigan at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, followed by a 1 p.m. game vs. the Toledo Rockets on Sunday, Oct. 25.

The Golden Flashes are coming off a successful 2-0 weekend by defeating Bowling Green, 4-1, and Eastern Michigan, 3-0. Redshirt sophomore Donavan Capehart (Orient, Ohio) tallied four goals, including a hat-trick vs. the Eagles, to earn Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors. After her offensive outburst, Capehart now leads the MAC in goals (11) and goals per game (0.69).
Junior forward Jenna Hellstrom (Sudbury, Ontario) leads the Golden Flashes and the MAC in numerous offensive categories. Hellstrom ranks first in points with 30 (10g, 10a), points per game (2.00), assists (10) and assists per game (0.67). Hellstrom also ranks fourth in the nation for total assists, eighth in total points and ninth in points per game.
The potent Kent State offense leads the MAC in goals (34), goals per game (2.12), assists (2.56) and assists per game (2.56).
Freshman goalkeeper Ashleah McDonald (Langley, British Columbia) boasts a 9-4-1 record. In 14 games, McDonald has allowed 15 goals (1.06 gaa) and has 61 saves (.803).
ABOUT CENTRAL MICHIGAN
The Chippewas enter the weekend with a 5-8-2 record and a 4-3-1 mark in the MAC. Central Michigan went 1-1 last weekend, defeating Akron 3-0, but falling to Buffalo, 3-0.
Central Michigan has scored just 16 goals this season, which is the second lowest in the league. Senior Kaelyn Korte leads the squad in scoring with seven points on three goals and one assist, followed by Samantha Maher with five points on two goals and one assist.
The Chippewas and Golden Flashes are meeting for the 20th time, with Central Michigan leading the all-time series, 11-6-2. The Chippewas have been victorious in the last eight meetings.
ABOUT TOLEDO
The Rockets are 6-11-0 and 2-6 in MAC play after falling to both Buffalo and Akron last weekend on the road. Toledo is currently in 10th in the MAC standings with six points.Â
Toledo's offense has produced just 16 goals this season, and is being outscored by its opponents, 31-15. Kiersten Johnson and Isa Echeverri each lead the Rockets in scoring with nine points. Johnson has a team-high four goals, while Echeverri has added three.
Sam Tiongson has started 11 games in goal and has a 4-7-0 record with two shutouts. In 990 minutes, Tiongson has allowed 20 goals (1.82 gaa) and has 44 saves (.688).
Toledo and Kent State will meet for the 21st time on Sunday. The Golden Flashes lead the all-time series, 11-8-1. Kent State has been victorious in the last three meetings, outscoring Toledo 8-2.
After this weekend, the Golden Flashes will host Ohio University at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29 to close out the regular season.
