Men’s Golf Back in Action at Cleveland State Invitational

AURORA, Ohio- The Kent State University men's golf team will be playing close to home this week, competing at the Cleveland State Invitational at Barrington Golf Club on Monday, Oct. 5 and Tuesday, Oct. 6. Live scoring will be provided via birdiefire.com.
Joining the Flashes at the Cleveland State Invitational will be Cleveland State, Appalachian State, Bowling Green, Dayton, IPFW, Northern Kentucky, Oakland, Robert Morris, St. Francis (Pa.), Wright State and Youngstown State.
The Golden Flashes have not competed in the Cleveland State Invitational since the 2005-06 season when the Flashes' finished in third at Sand Ridge G.C.
The first 36 holes at the par-72, 7,138-yard course will be played on Monday, with the final 18 being played on Tuesday. There will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on both days.
In the lineup for the Golden Flashes will be sophomores Ian Holt (Stow, Ohio), Chase Johnson (Barberton, Ohio) and Spencer Dobbs (Whitby, Ontario) and freshmen Gisli Sveinbergsson (Hafnarfjordur, Iceland) and Bjarki Petursson (Borgarnes, Iceland). Senior Sebastian Bendsen (Vejen, Denmark), junior Tyler McHugh (Aurora, Ohio) and junior Chase Parker (Akron, Ohio) will be competing as individuals.
Kent State opened its season strong, finishing in third at the highly competitive Gopher Invitational Sept. 13-14. Three Golden Flashes finished in the Top-20, including Holt in 10th, Johnson in 14th and Sveinbergsson in 17th. The Golden Flashes competed in the Inverness Intercollegiate on Sept. 21-2 and finished ninth overall. Holt led the Golden Flashes with a 13th place finish at 9-over 222.
Holt leads the team with a 73.5 average in six rounds this season, followed by Johnson with a 74 average in six rounds.
