Volleyball Tops Buffalo in Four-Setter

AMHERST, N.Y. โ Kent State came from behind to defeat Buffalo, 3-1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-20), Friday night for its second road victory of the season.
The Golden Flashes (9-8, 3-2 MAC) overcame a slow start offensively to finish the night with a .262 team attack percentage. In losing the first set, the Flashes were held to .068 hitting. Kent State was able to make the necessary adjustments and hit .366 over the final three sets.
Senior Kelly Hutchison was outstanding throughout the match and finished with 21 kills on .436 hitting. Sophomore Kelsey Bittinger added 10 kills. Junior Katarina Kojic recorded 44 assists to lead all players.
Kent State got another terrific overall defensive performance and held Buffalo to under a .200 hitting percentage in each set. Sophomore Challen Geraghty led the back row with 21 digs and freshman Sam Jones matched her career-high with 13 digs. Senior Bridget Wilhelm controlled the net with eight blocks.
The Flashes served tough and finished with a season-high 10 aces. Hutchison led the way with three aces, while Geraghty, Kojic and Wilhlem added two each.
Kent State concludes the weekend Saturday with a Wagon Wheel Challenge match at rival Akron at 5 p.m.
