Flashes Fall to Hot-Shooting Penguins

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio. – Kent State (3-6) fell to a hot-shooting Youngstown State (7-1) 91-61 on Saturday afternoon.
The Penguins shot nothing but three-pointers in the opening five minutes, making four of ten to have and early 12-7 lead at the game's first media timeout. McKenna Stephens had five of the Flashes' seven points at that time. Youngstown State's lead grew to 21-9 at the end of the quarter.
Just before the horn heading into the half, Keziah Lewis sunk a three to make it a 38-19 game at the halfway point.
In the third quarter, Kent State stepped up its defense, as Larissa Lurken had a steal and layup to bring the lead within 13, but Youngstown State quickly answered back, taking a 62-44 advantage at the end of the third quarter.
The Golden Flashes struggled to cool off the hot-shooting Penguins, as the home team went on to clinch the thirty-point victory.
Youngstown State shot 50.8% from the floor in the game with 15 made three-point baskets. Kent State had nine steals in the game and forced 19 turnovers, scoring 27 points off those turnovers.
Lurken led the team in scoring for the second-straight game, finishing with 15 points. Jordan Korinek netted ten. Tyra James led the Flashes with six rebounds.
