Gymnastics Travels to NC State Friday

The Golden Flashes Gymnastics squad will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina on Friday to take part in a quad meet with host NC State, Rutgers and UNC-Chapel Hill. The meet will begin at 7 p.m. at Reynolds Coliseum on the campus of NC State University.

The Flashes (2-5, 1-3 MAC) are looking to rebound from back-to-back loses to Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan. Kent State hosted the Chippewas on Feb. 15 and lost 196.400 to 195.325.
Kent State received two first place victories on the day from Rachel Stypinski on the floor (9.950) and Brooke Timko on vault (9.850). Jordan Hardison and Skylee Lamano tied for third on the floor with a total of 9.875. Stypinski also tied for first on the balance beam with a 9.900.
For her performance at the meet against Central Michigan, Stypinski was named the Mid-American Conference Specialist of the Week, for her third time this season. Her score on the beam tied her career-high while her spectatcular score on the floor, 9.950, is a career-best.
Rutgers ...
The Scarlet Knights (7-7) are coming off of a quad in which they finished 2-1. Rutgers finished with a score of 194.450 defeating Cornell and Ursinus while being defeated by Maryland.
Luisa Leal turned in a 9.850 performance on vault and adding a 9.750 score on beam. Claire Jones also added impressive performances by finishing second on beam (9.825) and first on floor (9.875).

The Wolfpack (5-4) defeated William and Mary and George Washington in a tri meet with a score of 195.850 on Feb. 14 to mark NC State's first home win of the campaign.
Amanda Fillard finished first on the uneven bars with a score of 9.850, and Lane Jarred tied for first on floor with GW's Maggie Lundeen (9.900). Jarred and Brittni Watkins tied for first on the beam with a mark of 9.825.
UNC-Chapel Hill ...
The Tar Heels (9-4) were defeated in their last meet by the eighth ranked Georgia Bulldogs 196.200 to 195.200. North Carolina excelled on the floor as Lexi Cappalli (9.925) and Morgan Lane (9.875) took the top two places respectively.

Kent State holds a 3-1 record against Rutgers. The Flashes lost the last meeting in Kent on Jan. 17, 2014 195.025-194.475, but won the previous three matchups, 1998, 2010 and 2013.
NC State holds the 6-5 lead in the head-to-head series with Kent State. The Flashes won the last meeting a year ago in Kent, 195.400 to 194.150 over the Wolfpack.
Kent State and UNC are tied 1-1 in the series, with Kent State leading 1-0 in the regular season meetings. In the regular season matchup, the Flashes won 195.550-193.025 in 2001.

Kent State's gymnastics team will host their next meet at home in the M.A.C. Center on March 1st against the George Washington Colonials. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and is the Pink Meet to recognize breast cancer.
