Gymnastics Heads to Ypsilanti to Face Eagles Saturday

Kent State's gymnastics will be on the road this weekend when they travel to Eastern Michigan to take on the Eagles in a Mid-American Conference matchup. The meet is set for Saturday, February 7th at 4 p.m. in the EMU Convocation Center.
Golden Flashes … 2-3, 1-1 MAC
Kent State is looking for their third win in a row after defeating the University of Pittsburgh 195.750- 191.175 last weekend in the Beauty and the Beast competition in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.
Kent State had a strong all around performance with 10 individual career-highs being set in en route to the teams season high total of 195.750.
Rachel Stypinski, the MAC Specialist of the Week for the second week in a row, turned in career-high performances in two events, scoring an impressive 9.9 on both floor and beam, taking first on both events. Also setting two career-highs was Skyelee Lamano who scored a 9.8 on her floor exercise and a 9.85 on bars.
On vault, Brooke Timko came away victorious with a career-high 9.875. Chelsea Drooger took third on vault behind Timko with 9.8.
The Flashes dominated the bars with a final team score of 49.150. Rebecca Osmer and Ali Marrero led the way for the flashes, tying for first with a 9.875. Skyelee Lamano took third in the event with a 9.85, followed by Michaela Romito and Chelsea Drooger who tied for fourth with a 9.775.
Jordan Hardison came in second on floor behind Stypinski with a score of 9.875 and Lamano took third with her career-high 9.8.
The Eagles ... 6-1, 1-1 MAC
Eastern Michigan comes in to this weekend searching for their sixth victory in a row. The Eagles, 194.650, swept the quad meet on January 31st against Central Michigan, 194.000, the University of Illinois-Chicago, 189.925, and Illinois State, 189.650.
Kendall Valentine took second place on the uneven bars with a 9.850, the top individual score of the night for the Eagles.
Anna Willette and Carrina Lo Bello turned in great performances for Eastern Michigan, finishing first and second in the all-around competition with scores of 38.950 and 38.700, respectively.
The Eagles got a second place finish on floor from Chantelle Loehner with a score of 9.825. Also taking home a second place finish on the night was Natalie Gervais, who scored a 9.775 on the balance beam.

The Golden Flashes have had success against the Eagles in the past holding all-time record of 51-20 against EMU.
In their meeting with the Eagles last year, the Golden Flashes were victorious with a score of 194.475- 192.750.
Eastern Michigan's last regular season victory over Kent State came in March of 2005, 194.175-192.975.

After this week's meet with Eastern Michigan, the Golden Flashes travel to Raleigh, North Carolina to take on NC State, UNC- Chapel Hill, and Rutgers. The competition is slated for Friday, February 20 at 7 p.m.
