TOLEDO, Ohio – A 9th-inning rally felt short for Kent State (8-9, 0-2) as they dropped the second game of the series against Toledo (8-14, 2-0) by a score of 4-3.
The Rockets brought a run across in the 2nd and 3rd and then two in the 4th for their offensive output. The Golden Flashes' scored one in the 5th when Dylan Rosa walked then came home on a double by Tim DalPorto.
Down 4-1 in the 9th, Kent State tried to rally as Sawyer Polen led off with a base hit, Jeff Revesz doubled him home, and then Revesz scored on a base hit by Tommy Monnot. But a strikeout and groundout ended the inning and the game.
Starter Eric Lauer went 6.1 innings with eight hits, three earned runs, no walks and five strikeouts. Dan Kopcak threw an untouchable inning of relief with four strikeouts, as one batter reached on a passed ball. Jared Skolnicki finished the game on the mound with one walk and one strikeout.
Polen was the only Golden Flash with a two-hit day. Revesz, DalPorto and Rosa all had a double.
Kent State and Toledo will meet at the same time on Sunday as the Golden Flashes will look to get their first win in conference play.
