Gymnastics Turns in 4th Highest Score in Win Over Ball State Sunday

KENT, Ohio - Kent State gymnastics defeated Ball State on senior day in the M.A.C. Center with the fourth highest team score, 196.800, in school history with the fifth highest floor routine score of 49.550. The Golden Flashes honored six seniors -- Stephanie Comini, Chelsea Drooger, Whitnee Johnson, Kelsey Lawless, Amiah Mims and Nicole Radon -- on Sunday, March 8th, as Kent State imroves to .500 on the season (6-6).
Six personal-records were set, and six were tied on senior night for the Golden Flashes, who now improve to 6-6 on the season and 2-3 in the Mid-American Conference. Kent State finished with team scores of 48.950 (vault), 49.225 (bars), 49.075 (beam), and 49.550 (floor), to reach their final of 196.800.
The Flashes swept the competition with first place finishes in every event, top five finishes on the bars, top two finishes on beam and floor, and one first place finish on vault.
Taking first place honors tonight were Ali Marrero (bars), Rachel Stypinski (beam), Chelsea Drooger (vault), with Rachel Stypinski and Jordan Hardison on floor.
Stypinski turned in another great performance, as she tied both her personal-records on beam (9.900) and floor (9.950). Hardison set her personal-record on floor with her 9.950.
Drooger tied for first on vault with a 9.850, while Skyelee Lamano tied for sixth with a personal-record of 9.775.
Marrero set two personal-records on the night, with a 9.900 on bars and 9.850 on beam, for second place.
Following Marrero on bars, Rebecca Osmer, Michaela Romito, Brooke Timko, and Drooger were the top five finishers, respectively. Osmer scored a 9.875, Romito and Timko tied with a 9.825, which set a personal-record for Timko, and Drooger finshed with a 9.800. Whitnee Johnson also tied her personal-record with a 9.725, in eighth.
On floor behind Hardison and Stypinski, Lamano finished fourth with a 9.900 and tying for fifth were Nicole Radon and Nicolle Eastman with a 9.875, which is a personal-record for Radon. Amiah Mims finished ninth on floor with a 9.800.
Ball State had scores of 49.000 on vault and beam, a 48.400 on bars and a 49.100 on floor to make up their 195.500 total. The Cardinals saw Denashia Christian tie for first on vault with a 9.850.
Kent State looks to close the regular season on Saturday, March 14th in Bowling Green, Ohio at 4pm against the Falcons.
