
Soccer to Host Bryant in Home Opener on Sunday

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State women's soccer team hosts the Bryant University Bulldogs at 1p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 23 at Zoeller Field.  Video and live stats will be provided via kentstatesports.com.
Kent State had a tough battle in its season-opener on Friday night, being edged by the Big Ten's Maryland Terrapins, 1-0. Three newcomers were in the Flashes' starting lineup, including goalkeeper Ashleah McDonald.  In McDonald's collegiate debut, she made four saves and allowed just one goal, a penalty kick, in the loss. Maryland combined for 16 shots with five on target, as the Golden Flashes totaled five shots with one on goal.
Junior Jenna Hellstrom led the Kent State offense with three shots, including one on goal. Sophomores Doni Capehart and Hayden Pascoe added the other two.
Bryant opened its season on Friday night in Akron and fell to the Zips, 4-0, at FirstEnergy Stadium. Akron went up 1-0 at half and went off for three more in an eight-minute span in the second half.Â
Sophomore midfielder Hannah Crofut tallied Bryant's lone shot on goal, while Kaylan Conrad and Rachel Brightman split time between the pipes.Â
Bryant was picked to finish seventh in the Northeast Conference preseason coaches' poll after finishing the 2014 season with a 4-13-2 overall record and a 2-4-2 conference mark.
After Sunday's contest, Kent State will host Louisville at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, before hitting the road for the next two weeks.Â
