Hellstrom Scores Twice in 6-0 Victory over Bryant

KENT, Ohio-Kent State cruised to a 6-0 victory over Bryant University in the Golden Flashes home opener Sunday afternoon. Junior Jenna Hellstrom led the way for the Golden Flashes with two goals and two assists, with her first goal coming less than a minute into the contest.
With the victory, Kent State improved to 1-1 on the season and Bryant dropped to 0-2. The Golden Flashes rebounded in resounding fashion from a 1-0 season opening loss at Maryland on Friday night.
Kent State also got goals from Brittany Maisano, Kristen Brots, Karli Paracca and Doni Capehart in a dominating effort. After the quick goal by Hellstrom, Maisano struck in the 35th minute from the left side of goal. Maisano, who was on the left side of the eight-yard box, received a pass from Paracca and slipped it past Bryant goalkeeper Kaylan Conrad. It was her first collegiate goal.
The floodgates opened in the second half as the Golden Flashes scored four second-half goals. Kent State dominated the entire game and enjoyed a 22-9 shot advantage and outworked the Bulldogs for a 9-5 lead in corner kicks. The Golden Flashes backline was stout in defense as Ashleah McDonald and Katie Kingsbury combined for the shutout in goal.
Kent State got two goals in under a minute when Brots scored at the 53:07 mark. Sophomore Hayden Pascoe and Hellstrom were credited with the assist. Then just a minute later, Hellstrom notched her second goal of the game. The goal started on a quick counter-attack out of the backfield by Maisano on the left side. Pascoe and Abbie Lawson assisted on the goal.
The Golden Flashes tacked on two more goals in the final minutes to finish the rout. In the 82nd minute Paracca banged home a carom off the left post past a diving Bulldogs goalkeeper. Morgan Williams had a shot hit the left post and a charging Paracca was there to put in the rebound.
Capehart's goal came with 36 seconds remaining in the game and was a strike from 13-yards out in front of goal.
The Golden Flashes are back in action on Friday, August 28th at 4:30 p.m when they host Louisville.
