Balanced Flashes Top Bowling Green for First MAC Victory

KENT, Ohio โ Kent State turned in one of its best offensive performances of the season to beat Bowling Green, 3-1 (25-18, 23-25, 25-19, 25-21) Saturday night at the M.A.C. Center. The win gives the Golden Flashes (7-7, 1-1 MAC) a split for the opening weekend of Mid-American Conference play.
Five Golden Flashes finished with at least seven kills in the match. That resulted in keeping the Falcons' defense off-balance and a .316 hitting percentage, which is the highest since the season-opener against Morgan State. Sophomore Kelsey Bittinger led all players with 16 kills and a .433 hitting percentage. Senior Kelly Hutchison (10 kills) and senior Bridget Wilhelm (10 kills) were also in double-figures, while freshman Amy Kober and junior Drew Norberg added eight kills and seven kills, respectively.
Junior Katarina Kojic displayed her versatility in the match and recorded her third straight double-double. In addition to doing a terrific job of locating multiple hitters en route to 45 assists, Kojic had a match-high 17 digs. She also added three kills, two blocks and an ace.
In addition to Kojic, sophomore Challen Geraghty (13 digs), Bittinger (13 digs), Hutchison (11 digs) and freshman Sam Jones (10 digs) also reached double-digits for the Flashes. Senior Bridget Wilhelm had a match-high six blocks and Bittinger added six.
Kent State will remain at home to host Ohio on Thursday, October 1 and then play on the road for the first time in conference time against Central Michigan on Saturday, October 3.
