
Women’s Soccer Edged by Buffalo, 1-0

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Kent State women's soccer team had its four-game winning streak snapped after a 1-0 loss to Buffalo on Sunday afternoon at UB Stadium. The Golden Flashes dropped to 5-3-2 overall with a 1-1-0 mark in Mid-American Conference play, while the Bulls improved to 5-4-1 and 1-1-0 in the league.
Buffalo, who dropped its MAC opener on Friday evening to Ohio University, scored the lone goal of the game at the 27:22 mark. Redshirt freshman Carissima Cutrona crossed the ball to sophomore leading scorer Julia Benati who put one past rookie goalkeeper Ashleah McDonald (Langley B.C.).
The Golden Flashes had plenty of looks on goal, out-shooting the Bulls 13-7 for the game, including a 7-3 advantage in the first 45 minutes. Junior Jenna Hellstrom (Sudbury, Ontario) led the attack with six shots, two on goal, while Abbie Lawson (Stow, Ohio) and Donavan Capehart (Oriend, Ohio) added two shots.
Kent State kept the pressure on Buffalo sophomore goalkeeper Laura Dougall throughout the game, as she tallied five saves, four in the first period and one in the second. Dougall improved to 5-4-1 overall and earned his fifth shutout victory.
Kent State also led Buffalo in corner kicks, 3-1.
McDonald made one save for the Golden Flashes in 90 minutes between the pipes, and moved to 5-2-1 on the season.
The Golden Flashes will return home to host Western Michigan at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2 and Northern Illinois at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct.4.
