
Soccer Battles Central Michigan to 1-1 Draw

MT. PLEASANT, Mich.- Kent State soccer's match with Central Michigan Friday night from the CMU Soccer Complex lived up to the hype as the teams battled to 1-1 draw. The Golden Flashes remain unbeaten in the MAC, moving to 10-1-1 (6-0-1 MAC), while the Chippewas move to 12-1-2 (4-1-2 MAC).
Kent State started off the match with an excellent display of passing that resulted in Kristen Brots testing Central Michigan's Kristen Knutson but Knutson would come up with the save
Jaime Eiben got a good look at goal in the 31st minute following a Jenna Hellstrom corner kick. The ball made its way to Jaime Eiben at the top of box, where Eiben got a shot off and forcing the Chippewas to top the ball over the crossbar.
The Kent State defense was stout in the first half not allowing the Chippewas to register a shot on goal, giving the Golden Flashes a 4-0 advantage in shots on goal heading into the second half.
The Golden Flashes got on the board in the 62nd minute as Jaime Eiben collected a deflected ball about 25 yards out and blasted a shot into the top corner of the net for her first goal of the season.
The Chippewas would answer in the 64th minute as Christen Chiesa played a ball into to Eliza Van de Kerkhove who knocked the ball into net for her second goal of the year.
Jenna Hellstrom nearly scored the go-ahead goal in the 75th minute, putting one shot on goal that was deflected by Knutson back to Hellstrom who put the rebound wide of the net.
As time winded down, the Golden Flashes earned two corner kicks, the second of which resulted in Brittany Maisano getting a shot off from the top of the box but the keeper would make the save as time expired.
Kent State registered two shots in the overtime periods, one by Donavan Capehart in the first overtime period and one by Amanda Reed in the second overtime period but both were saved.
The Golden Flashes didn't allow a shot on goal in either of the overtime periods as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
At the end of the night, Kent State had the advantage in shots on goal (10-2) and corner kicks (8-1).
The Golden Flashes return to action Sunday as they take on Eastern Michigan from Scicluna Field at 1 p.m.
